Linguaskill General

Assesses general English — everyday life, school, travel, social issues, and more. Suited to proving English ability that isn't tied to a specific industry: undergraduate and graduate admissions, exchange programmes, study abroad, and general job hiring. Writing Part 2 is set as an essay task.

Modules

Test structure by module

You can take each of the four skills as an independent module, or take them together as 4-Skill.

Reading

about 40 min (up to 59 min, adaptive so variable)AI adaptive · auto-marked
  • The difficulty of the next question adjusts in real time based on your answers — only questions matched to your level are set
  • Multiple-choice short texts, single/multiple-choice gap-fill, 5-question multiple-choice long reading, direct-entry gaps, sentence/paragraph insertion, 4-text multiple matching
  • If your level is identified quickly, the number of questions and the time are reduced

Listening

about 40 min (up to 59 min, adaptive so variable)AI adaptive · auto-marked
  • Listening comprehension assessed with the same adaptive method as Reading
  • Short-audio multiple choice, 5-question multiple choice on longer recordings, sentence completion (direct entry, up to 3 words), single/multiple matching
  • Audio usually plays once — notes allowed

Writing

55 min totalAI auto-marking + expert examiner review
  • Part 1 (25%): email of 50+ words — one task per everyday/business situation
  • Part 2 (75%): 250+ words — an essay for General, a report for Business
  • Assessed on five criteria: content, organisation, grammatical accuracy, vocabulary range, and task achievement

Speaking

about 16 min totalRecorded · AI auto-marking + expert examiner review
  • Three warm-up questions (not marked), then five main parts
  • Part 1: 1-minute presentation / Part 2.1: 40-second summary of meeting points / Part 2.2: three follow-up questions
  • Part 3: recommendation based on colleague requirements / Part 4: analyse arguments and reach a conclusion
  • Recorded directly to a microphone with no examiner present — mic quality and a quiet environment matter

Where to take it

Remote vs In-centre

Home testing available

Remote (at home)

Take it at home or in the office on your own computer. No travel time or transport cost, and you can pick your own date without waiting for a session to fill. An online proctor supervises in real time, and AI monitoring automatically flags suspected cheating.

In-centre (at a test centre)

Take it at an accredited test centre with an invigilator present. Equipment and internet are all set up in advance, so you only need to bring your ID. Recommended if your home environment isn't suitable or you can't meet the equipment requirements.

Use cases

General use cases

  • University admissions, transfer, exchange: Submit as an accredited English score for undergraduate/graduate entry to English-speaking and European universities (B1-C2)
  • Study abroad, overseas internships: Evidence English ability when applying for short-term study abroad or overseas internship programmes
  • Korean university graduation requirements: Used at some universities as a graduation requirement or in place of an in-house English test
  • Corporate hiring: A general English indicator for hiring at domestic and foreign-affiliated companies
